Job Description


You will contribute to the success of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Collaboration (RAICo), and oversee the operations and programme activities related to the University of Manchester’s activities as part of RAICo, at the RAICo1 facility in Whitehaven, West Cumbria. This programme is a collaboration between the University of Manchester, UK’s Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Sellafield Ltd.

You will be based at the shared robotics facility in Cumbria, RAICo1, and will be required to work directly with researchers at the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, York, Nottingham and Oxford, and technical leads from UKAEA. You will also be expected to work directly with engineers at nuclear end-user organisations including Sellafield Ltd, EDF Energy, Magnox and the Atomic Weapons Establishment. Programme management aspects will require you to have overview of the wider RAICo programme and help widen the scope of robotics academic engagement in the UK for the benefit of the RAICo programme and the wider NDA estate. You will work with the both the RAICo academic lead, RAICo Director (UKAEA) and other key RAICo personnel to support strategic activities in relation to the programme which may include significant stakeholder engagement, programme review and development activities for future funding, growth of programme and integration into existing facilities, supporting the scoping and development of future facilities and any other activities as the RAICo programme requires. International travel for attendance at conferences will also be expected.
