Overall Purpose of the Job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive assistant technician to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for FSE and the wider University. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the assistant technician will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. FSE’s research and teaching quality is recognised globally; this is an exciting opportunity to join us in Manchester and contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service.

  • Acting as a point of contact and action for all building and building services related matters.
  • Ensuring that problems are resolved in a timely fashion by working with your team members and in close collaboration with Faculty Estates and H&S teams.
  • Proactively ensuring that buildings operate to an excellent standard of housekeeping, organisation and safety.
  • Be responsible for carrying out and recording routine and statutory inspections and preventative maintenance. Such jobs may include but are not limited to: Estates repairs reporting, updating and maintaining accuracy of FSE’s technical asset register, collating and submitting security and space access requests, PAT testing, inspection of specialist safety monitoring systems (e.g. gas detection and oxygen depletion alarms), liquid nitrogen decanting, equipment and chemical waste disposal, office and equipment moves, legionella prevention, ladder and lifting aid inspections, fire suppression checks (e.g. extinguishers and blankets), monitoring of early warning systems (e.g. escape of water, freezer temperatures, power cuts, gas detection).

Please note, under the new immigration rules this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the Points Based System. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK in order to be eligible to take up the post.
