The Politics Department within the School of Social Sciences is looking to appoint a fixed term lecturer (teaching-focused) in Political Theory for the academic year 2025-26. The role is part-time, for 50% of full-time, around 2.5 days per week on average across 12 months.
The post-holder would be based in one of the research clusters in the Politics department, the Manchester Centre for Political Theory (MANCEPT https://sites.manchester.ac.uk/mancept/). Providing an active forum for education and research in political theory, MANCEPT is one of the largest and strongest groupings of its kind in the UK, with a long tradition of international excellence. Its core membership includes teaching and research staff as well as postgraduate students. Members’ research interests cover a wide range of topics in contemporary political theory, making use of the tools of analytical political theory to address theoretical issues and their real-world implications. MANCEPT hosts one of the largest annual conferences in Political and Moral Philosophy worldwide, the MANCEPT Workshops.
The post-holders will teach on different analytical political theory modules at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and supervise a range of dissertations broadly on political theory and related areas. They will support academic advisees, and take on relevant administrative responsibilities.
These are teaching-focused lectureships. They will operate on a 60-20-20 basis, where 60% of the time (on average) is spent doing teaching, 20% on scholarship, and 20% on administration.
