
Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Oligonucleotide Disposition at the Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research (CAPKR) within the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry. The post will be tenable on a fixed term basis of 24 months. The post-doctoral research associate will establish novel in vitro assays to quantify in vitro siRNA uptake, intracellular distribution, and effect in primary cultured hepatocytes. These in vitro data will be subsequently used to inform mechanistic physiologically-based pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PBPK-PD) models, enabling bottom-up predictions of in vivo oligonucleotide disposition and effect. The research will involve the development and exploration of in vitro methods to assess siRNA cellular kinetics using cellular and molecular techniques, including subcellular fractionation, live-cell imaging, RT-PCR and ELISA techniques.
Successful candidate will become a member of the CAPKR research team and be fully involved in a project entitled “Improving a priori PBPK modelling for translation of oligonucleotide disposition, tissue clearance, and durability of effect”. The applicants should hold a PhD in a biomedical or pharmaceutical research area and have experience with establishing cell-based assays for measuring biological or pharmacological processes. In addition, experience in relevant molecular techniques (e.g., RT-PCR, ELISA), proteomic analyses or mathematical modelling using relevant software packages and models, as well as experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams, would be desirable.
As this role involves research at a postgraduate level, applicants who are not an EEA national or a national of an exempt country and who will require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the UK Visas and Immigration’s (UKVI) Points Based System in order to take up the role, will be required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate and will need to obtain this prior to making any official visa application UKVI.
