Job Description

Applications are invited for the Sarah Harding Young Women’s Breast Cancer Fellowship/Lectureship in Primary Breast Cancer Prevention.

To build our capacity in Breast Cancer Prevention Research, we will make one discovery-scientist post. You will have a track record working on normal breast tissue in vitro modelling and already have an established network of local collaborators, including clinical/non-clinical partners. Your research strategy will have a strong emphasis on developing ex vivo models to mimic in situ normal breast facilitating compound screening for translational prevention trials.

The Nightingale Centre houses the largest breast cancer unit in the UK and the first and largest Family History Risk and Prevention Centre. It is also home to The National Breast Imaging Academy. A large primary prevention surgical practice linked to an active Biobanking infrastructure provides a wealth of tissue for ex vivo model development and high throughput compound testing. Candidate compounds can then be rapidly translated into our biopsy prevention pipeline with on-treatment samples used to evaluate response and develop predictive biomarkers.

You will have a vision for how your research will address key clinical challenges and important research questions, and you will bring something new to the local environment, e.g., new technologies, ideas, and ways of working. You will be a future leader in your field, driving exciting research that enhances our existing strengths, and we will support you in the development of an independent and aspirational research programme. You will already appreciate that training the next generation is both important and rewarding, and we will provide opportunities to shape our undergraduate teaching programmes and postgraduate training pathways.
