Job Description

Dr Rebecca Lee’s laboratory, within the Division of Cancer Sciences wish to appoint a laboratory-based Research Assistant to an exciting project exploring Immunology and Cancer.

Immune therapy has revolutionised the treatment of many cancers however many challenges remain, with patients still dying from their disease and its complications. Cancer is a highly complex disease and its interaction with immune, parenchymal and stromal cells often leads to therapy resistance. Through greater understanding of these complex relationships, we hope to improve treatments for patients with cancer.

Our major focus is melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer, however many of the processes we observe may have pan-cancer relevance. We are particularly interested in liver metastases and the role they have in generating both local and systemic immune tolerance. Thus, many of our questions are aimed at better understanding of how cancer interacts with liver resident cells, but also more globally how this effects the macroenvironment when liver metastases are present.

We use a variety of state-of-the-art techniques including flow cytometry, spectral flow cytometry, CyTOF, multiplex immunohistochemistry with spatial analysis, single cell RNA sequencing, complex co-culture systems and in vivo models to address our questions.

We closely work with clinicians at The Christie Hospital in Manchester as well as groups both in the UK and internationally to access patient samples and data which feed into our work. Furthermore, we lead on national investigator designed clinical trials addressing important clinical questions, which then feed into our pre-clinical questions.

Our laboratory believes in diversity of thinking, creativity and providing a supportive, kind, joyful environment in which people can flourish.
