Job Description

Overall Purpose of the Job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technical Specialist (SEM/Sample Preparation) to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide sector-leading technical support for FSE and the wider University.

As one of the senior leads within the EM Facility, the Senior Technical Specialist for SEM/Sample Preparation will

  • Be part of a team of Senior Technical Specialists, Technical Specialists and Technical staff responsible for the care, maintenance, and operation of the SEMs, TEMs FIBs and associated analytical/preparation equipment across the EM Facility.
  • Offer specialised electron microscope training, advice in your area of expertise and, where appropriate, a bespoke service to users of the EM Suite. This will involve devising and implementing specific workflows and training strategies to improve response times and training throughput.
  • Ensure that the electron microscopes and specialty systems are fully operational and comply with the University’s Health and Safety standards.
