Job Description

We are seeking a motivated laboratory-based Research Technician to join a dynamic lab working to understand the evolution of antimicrobial resistance within human fungal pathogens. This role is based in the lab of Dr Bottery, part of the wider Manchester Fungal Infection Group. The role is full-time for 12 months, available from January 2026.

The successful candidate will provide technical support with minimal supervision in a range of project specific research activities including: the running and troubleshooting of microbiological experiments; the maintenance, use and teaching of research equipment and assisting with the general lab operations, including ensuring safety compliance within the laboratories.

Essential requirements/skills for the post include:

  • Substantial experience of working in a research laboratory
  • Experience and knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and procedures; good microbiological laboratory practice; use of general lab equipment.
  • Experience working with Biosafety Level 2 microbial pathogens
  • Knowledge and experience of molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis).
