Job Description

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and proactive Research Technician to join the Bertuzzi’s group at the Manchester Fungal Infection at the University of Manchester. The post is available from the 1st of February 2026 on a full-time basis for 24 months, with the possibility to extend. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers, working on an Wellcome Trust funded project investigating how Mucorales fungi adapt to natural and in-host environments and how stress adaptation drives infection, utilising our cutting-edge experimental workflows and unrivalled access to clinical and environmental isolates. The candidate will provide technical and administrative support to the research activities within the Bertuzzi lab. This will involve assisting with a range of project specific research activities (e.g. construction and validation of Mucorales mutants and reporters, testing the effect of stressors of Mucorales growth and in vitro host interactions), managing laboratory equipment and consumables stocks, ensuring health and safety and ethics compliance within the laboratory, maintaining laboratory inventories and audits and identifying ways to maximise sustainable lab practice. The ideal candidate will have previous lab experience or lab management experience and support undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
