Job Description

The Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS) is pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity for a staff focussed Disability Adviser to join our team at the University of Manchester.

As part of DASS, you will contribute to a client-centred, specialist advice and guidance service. You will manage your own caseload, providing tailored advice and support for disabled staff and coordinating the adjustments they require. The role involves advising on applications for external funding, outlining available support, and working collaboratively with colleagues across the Campus Life Division (Advice and Response, the Mental Health Support Team, and Occupational Health), line managers and People Services.

You will bring strong knowledge of the Equality Act and other relevant legislation, and a commitment to continuous service improvement.

Applicants should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have experience assessing the needs of disabled people, including individuals with mental health conditions, neurodivergence, unseen disabilities, physical or sensory impairments, and specific learning difficulties. A detailed understanding of the needs of staff within the higher education sector, and the appropriate responses and adjustments, is essential.

Excellent interpersonal skills, strong accuracy and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
