Job Description

Applications are invited for a technician position to work in the Genome Editing Unit core facility.

Brief job outline

This is a full time appointment starting as soon as possible fixed term for nine months.

The GEU core facility employs a wide range of genetic manipulation technologies to generate experimental models, including programmable nuclease-based genome editing systems. Recently, the Unit has expanded its activities to develop rapid, point-of-care diagnostic assays for the detection of human genetic variants and pathogens using these nucleases.

We have secured funding to recruit a Technician to provide dedicated technical support for this project. The successful candidate will contribute to the optimisation of these assays to improve sensitivity and facilitate testing in real-world biological samples.

This is a predominantly laboratory-based role. The postholder will be responsible for reagent preparation and generation, performing molecular assays, analysing experimental data, and maintaining accurate laboratory records. Strong organisational skills are essential, including the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workloads effectively.

Applicants should have substantial relevant laboratory experience, including a broad range of molecular biology techniques and assay development. Experience working in a research or core facility environment would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for scientific research, confidence in applying existing technical skills and acquiring new ones as required, the ability to work independently and reliably, excellent organisational and time-management skills, careful attention to detail and high standards of laboratory practice.
