A postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to undertake research in a UKRI/EPSRC funded research project to investigate the development of terahertz (THz) spintronic emitters as strong sources of THz radiation and for supporting the switching of nanoscale magnetic bits at THz timescales. The work is experimental in nature and focuses on development of future storage technologies offering low energy, but high-speed magnetic switching.
The project is joint between researchers at the Universities of Manchester and Lancaster. At Manchester, the work continues a successful collaboration on spintronic emitters by members of the Terahertz Physics research group in the Photon Science Institute1 and the Nano Engineering & Spintronic Technologies (NEST) research group2, in the Faculty of Science & Engineering. The work will make use of the extensive range of laser facilities available in the Photon Science Institute.
You will hold or are about to obtain a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a relevant discipline. You must have hands-on experimental experience and skills in THz time-domain spectroscopy, ultrafast lasers and thin film deposition. You should have a desire to pass on skills and knowledge to PhD/MSc/MPhys students.
