SENIOR TECHNICIAN (WORKSHOPS)

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Senior Technician (Workshops). This role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality technical support for teaching, research and professional services within the Faculty of Science & Engineering. You will join a dynamic technical operations team, contributing to a sector-leading workshop service and supporting innovative engineering and scientific activity.


Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Manufacturing precision components and assemblies using conventional and CNC machine tools
  • Supporting teaching, research and student projects, including demonstrating workshop equipment
  • Providing technical guidance and design advice for experimental rigs and equipment
  • Maintaining, servicing and repairing equipment to ensure minimal disruption to operations
  • Collaborating with staff, students and external stakeholders, while supporting and mentoring junior technicians and apprentices

About You

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification in a science or engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience using conventional and CNC machining equipment and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Experience in a technical or engineering role, including machining to tight tolerances and use of CAD/CAM
  • Strong communication, teamwork and customer service skills
  • Knowledge and application of health and safety practices in a technical environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience supporting teaching or delivering practical sessions
  • Experience working in a Higher Education or research environment
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment servicing and repair
  • Previous supervisory or line management experience
