Job Description


We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Language Tutor (LEAP) in Chinese (Mandarin). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality teaching within the University-Wide Languages for All Programme (LEAP) in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures. You will join a dynamic and inclusive academic environment, supporting language learning across a diverse student community.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering engaging teaching in written and spoken Chinese (Mandarin), both in-person and online, on LEAP and, where required, undergraduate programmes
  • Contributing to course design, curriculum development, and review of Chinese language provision
  • Developing teaching materials and supporting independent learning through innovative resources
  • Preparing and marking assessments, providing constructive feedback to support student progression
  • Participating in programme activities such as recruitment, events, and departmental collaboration

About You

We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:

Essential Criteria:

  • A first degree and relevant educational background
  • A recognised teaching qualification
  • Near-native proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Experience of teaching and assessing Chinese at tertiary level
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience teaching language for specific purposes (e.g. business or professional contexts)
  • Experience in translation and/or interpreting teaching
  • Experience of curriculum development
  • Accredited qualifications in teaching Chinese as a foreign language
