Job Description

Are you an experienced business support, finance or administration professional who enjoys leading people, improving how services operate and making things work better?

We are looking for an Hospitality Business Support Manager to join our Conferences, Venues and Hospitality team.

This is much more than a traditional administration role. You’ll lead the business support function behind a busy and commercially focused hospitality operation, ensuring our teams have the systems, financial information, processes and support they need to deliver an excellent service.

It’s an opportunity to take ownership of an established function, develop your team and influence how we work. Identifying improvements, strengthening processes and helping create a responsive, efficient and customer-focused service.

The role

You’ll lead and develop the Hospitality administration and business support team, working closely with operational colleagues across Conferences, Venues and Hospitality.

You’ll have oversight of the financial and administrative processes that underpin the service, from income processing, invoicing and reconciliations through to reporting, systems and internal controls.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, motivating and developing the Hospitality administration team, creating a supportive, accountable and high-performing environment.
  • Overseeing financial administration including income processing, invoicing, reconciliations, internal recharges and reporting.
  • Ensuring systems, records and administrative processes are accurate, efficient, compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Working alongside operational teams to support hospitality systems, reporting, planning and decision-making.
  • Reviewing existing ways of working and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and service quality.
  • Building strong relationships across the department and ensuring colleagues and customers receive professional, responsive support.
  • Helping create a culture where continuous improvement, collaboration and excellent service are part of how we work every day.

About you

You’ll be an organised and confident people manager who understands what excellent business support looks like in a busy operational environment.

You’ll bring:

  • A Level 4 qualification, or equivalent professional experience, in business administration, finance or a related discipline.
  • Experience of leading, motivating and developing an administration or business support team.
  • A good understanding of financial administration, budgeting, reporting and commercial processes.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
  • The confidence to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with operational colleagues and stakeholders.
  • A strong customer and service focus.
  • Experience of reviewing processes, improving ways of working and supporting greater operational efficiency.

Experience within hospitality, events, catering or another commercial service environment would be useful, but it isn’t essential. We’re equally interested in people who can bring strong business support leadership and commercial awareness from another complex, customer-focused organisation.

Why join us?

In return, you will join a supportive and ambitious team within a large, diverse university environment, with access to a wide range of rewards and benefits including:

  • 26 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • Annual closure over Christmas and New Year.
  • A pension scheme with generous employer contributions.
  • Subsidised car parking and tax relief on childcare.
  • Access to staff benefits and offers.
  • A strong commitment to personal development, career development, wellbeing and mental health.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender or gender identity, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
