Job Description


We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join our team as Dalton Nuclear Policy Group Administrator within the Dalton Nuclear Institute, Faculty of Science and Engineering.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the work of the Dalton Nuclear Policy Group, which provides objective, evidence-based and independent analysis of policy issues relating to the nuclear and wider energy sectors. The Group contributes to national discussions on energy security, affordability and the UK’s Net Zero ambitions, working with colleagues across academia, industry and government.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term position for 24 months, based at Oddfellows Hall, Oxford Road, Manchester.

Working closely with the Fellow in Nuclear Energy Policy and colleagues across the Dalton Nuclear Institute, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective administration and smooth day-to-day operation of the Group.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing administrative support to enable the delivery of Dalton Nuclear Policy Group activities
  • Managing diaries, arranging meetings and supporting stakeholder engagement activities
  • Assisting with the planning, organisation and delivery of meetings and events
  • Maintaining records, preparing reports and supporting office processes in accordance with University procedures and data protection requirements
  • Supporting financial administration, including purchase requisitions, goods receipting and invoice processing

Essential Criteria

  • Experience providing effective administrative support in a busy environment
  • Experience managing diaries and providing PA-style support to senior staff
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide information, advice and guidance while maintaining confidentiality
  • Good IT, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience taking minutes, tracking actions and coordinating follow-up activity
  • Strong writing skills, including drafting correspondence and summary documents
  • An interest in energy, nuclear or public policy issues
  • Experience identifying opportunities for stakeholder engagement, consultations or policy impact
