Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our dynamic and highly regarded Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our mental health nursing portfolio across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within a vibrant, multidisciplinary academic environment.

You will contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of teaching and learning, supporting students to develop professional, clinical and academic competence. The role includes teaching, assessment and academic support, alongside engagement in scholarship and service activities that enhance the student experience and contribute to programme development.

We particularly welcome applicants with a strong background in contemporary mental health nursing practice and experience of working across a range of service settings. Experience of supporting student learning, delivering education or training, and contributing to service or practice development will be essential. Expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including low-intensity approaches, is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be educated to Master’s level (or be working towards this) and hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the mental health field. A commitment to inclusive, student-centred education and ongoing professional development is essential.

• Contributing to the design and delivery of nurse education and related support in respect of teaching within the Division, including simulated practice.
• Review on a regular basis course content and materials and discuss updates when required.
• Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and materials that create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
• Setting and marking authentic and inclusive assessment and providing high quality timely feedback to students
• Assist with ensuring that course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University and Faculty.

About You

Essential Criteria

• Nursing, Midwifery Council (NMC) registration on the mental health field pathway.
• Master’s degree completed in a relevant subject area
• Relevant experience working as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in relevant practice settings.
• Experience supporting the learning, supervision, assessment or development of students, learners, or staff in practice and/or academic environments.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.

Desirable Criteria

• Teaching qualification or relevant educator/practice assessor/practice supervisor preparation is desirable.
• PHD is desirable.
• Experience of contributing to quality assurance, audit, or service/practice improvement activity is desirable.
