Research Associate In Health Economics

We wish to appoint a Research Associate with expertise in economics and/or health economics to join the Health Organisation, Policy and Economics (HOPE) research group at The University of Manchester. The successful candidate will join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Policy Research Unit in Health and Care Systems and Commissioning (PRUComm).

You will be responsible for:

• Contribute to the design, conduct and analysis of novel research as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Identify and critically appraise relevant academic and policy literature
• Source, collate and clean a range of administrative and survey data on health and care spending, utilisation, and outcomes
• Design and undertake micro-econometric analyses
• Develop networks and productive working relationships with key stakeholders within the NHS and Department of Health and Social Care

About You

We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:

Essential Criteria:

• Excellent undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Economics or a related quantitative discipline
• Excellent Masters degree (or equivalent) in Economics or Health Economics, with a substantial econometrics component
• Experience of applying micro-econometric techniques
• Experience of managing and analysing complex data sets
• Clear oral and written presentation skills, with the ability to communicate with both academic and policy audiences

Desirable Criteria:

• PhD in Health Economics or Economics
• Evidence of publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
• Experience of applying micro-econometric techniques for programme evaluation
• Knowledge of the health and care system in England

This full-time post allows a mix of office-based and homeworking within the UK. The minimum expectation is that you attend the office in Manchester on a weekly basis for wider research group meetings/seminars.
