Applications are invited for a 9.5 month postdoctoral research position with the Riddell group at the University of Manchester. The position will commence on, or as soon as possible after, the 1st November 2022. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent (or will have submitted a thesis prior to commencing this position) in synthetic chemistry or biochemistry, and have a record of successful publications.
The successful candidate will help develop and implement a screening protocol for the identification of MOFs suitable for protein stabilisation. Conditions for controlled release of native proteins following encapsulation and detailed analysis of the protein-MOF materials will also be undertaken. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project we are keen to receive applications from candidates with previous experience in characterization of host-guest materials, as well as those with experience synthesizing, purifying and characterizing proteins. The proposed project provides opportunities to use a wide variety of characterization techniques including NMR (1D, 2D, heteronuclear and DOSY), mass spectrometry, IR, CD, PXRD and UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies.
The successful candidate should be willing to learn new techniques and explore novel research approaches, and must be highly motivated, ambitious and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. They should be capable of working under their own initiative while also providing appropriate guidance and support to other members of the research group. Due to potential industrial interest in the proposed research objectives the successful candidate should also be willing to present their work to non-academic audiences, and interact with industrial partners.
