
The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a permanent post in Classical Literature and Culture, within the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology, and Egyptology (CAHAE). The current post arises from the need to replace Professor Andrew Morrison, who has taken up the MacDowell Chair of Greek at the University of Glasgow.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in Classics in the area of Classical literature. They will demonstrate an excellent research profile (appropriate to career stage) including both track record and future plans, in the field of classical literature and culture. They will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the research profile of the Department.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery and assessment of existing course units in the field of classical literature on CAHAE’s programmes; they should demonstrate the ability to develop new course units in classical literature and culture. Their application should show strong evidence of teaching abilities in classical literature and culture and in ancient languages.
The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to administration for the Department as requested, and to play a full role in regular recruitment activities and staff-student events. They should demonstrate the ability to undertake the academic supervision and pastoral support of undergraduate and graduate students.
