This role

An opening has arisen for an experienced people/team manager to join the Teaching, Learning & Student IT Team, where you will be responsible for leading a high performing team of Developers and Analysts within our Campus Solutions Team.

Campus Solutions is the primary admissions, applicant, student and curriculum management application at the University and this role will be responsible for managing the team to support the system and develop new services within it.

While this is a role within IT Services, the focus is very much on people, team and stakeholder management, rather than technical development.

The successful candidate will have proven experience of leading teams by providing direction, setting goals and deadlines, delegating, and tracking tasks.  You will be an excellent communicator and have a history of building relationships within the team as well as with stakeholders.  You will demonstrate your ability to monitor team performance – with an aptness to motivate team members and recognise and reward high performance.  You will exhibit the ability to listen to team feedback and resolve issues or conflicts.  Supporting customers is also essential, with the opportunity to work across a wide customer base throughout the University. You will also have an awareness of software engineering, software and systems architecture and a general understanding of the role of IT within an organisation.

This is a senior role in the IT Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Associate Director for Teaching, Learning & Student IT.

Essential:

  • Experience of working with or leading teams working across large, complex business systems.
  • Awareness of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) methodologies.
  • Understanding of the ITIL service management practices (e.g. incident management, service request management, problem management).

  • Experience of leading and mentoring teams to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to engage with different types of stakeholder
  • Experience of managing budgets

Desirable:
