Job Description

The ICAM is a partnership between bp and selected globally leading universities to enable the effective application of advanced materials for the transition to net zero. Recognising the critical dependence of the energy sector on new materials, the ICAM was set up by bp with a $100m investment in autumn 2012. Built upon a hub and spoke model this project brings together world-leading strengths of four universities: The University of Manchester, University of Cambridge, Imperial College and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, to create an international centre of excellence in advanced materials research.

We are seeking a Materials Scientist Manager to work alongside the ICAM Associate Director in the development of new research projects, the programme management of existing research projects and the business analysis and exploitation of ICAM research. This role will also work closely with the bp Principal Materials Scientist and the ICAM Scientific Grants Manager.

This role would very much suit a PhD or PDRA with research experience in the area of Advanced Materials (or adjacent fields) who interested in a role interfacing academia and industry. The post holder will able to work independently and as part of wider teams as necessary.

Ideally the applicant will hold a Master or PhD in Materials Science and have demonstrable experience of managing research projects and writing grant proposals. Excellent communication, presentation and IT skills are essential.

This post is fixed term for 12 months.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
