The ICAM is a partnership between bp and selected globally leading universities to enable the effective application of advanced materials for the transition to net zero. Recognising the critical dependence of the energy sector on new materials, the ICAM was set up by bp with a $100m investment in autumn 2012. Built upon a hub and spoke model this project brings together world-leading strengths of four universities: The University of Manchester, University of Cambridge, Imperial College and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, to create an international centre of excellence in advanced materials research.
We are seeking a Communications Officer to develop and implement a Communications strategy in order to raise the profile of the ICAM both internally, within bp’s global community and the partner universities, and externally. This role will work in partnership with bp and UoM internal Communications teams and across the bp-ICAM partnership and will focus on how materials science and engineering will play a critical role in meeting bp’s ambitions to become a net zero company by 2050.
This role would very much suit an individual who is interested particularly in internal communications and who appreciates the importance of science and research to achieve a low carbon future. The post holder will be able to work independently and as part of wider teams as necessary. External communications will also be a feature of the role.
Ideally the applicant will hold a degree and have demonstrable direct experience of developing and implementing communications strategies. Previous experience in technical / science related communication is essential and it would be advantageous for the applicant to have a keen interest in low carbon advanced materials solutions.
This post is fixed term until 31 August 2027.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
