The Team  

The division of Technology leads and owns the University’s IT infrastructure and platforms and is accountable for a comprehensive approach across all areas of the University and its international centres. The division is comprised of four departments (Infrastructure Services, IT Operations Centre, Platforms and Infrastructure Programmes) and oversight of strategic managed services contacts. You will be a member of the division leadership team as well as the Directorate IT leadership team. 


The Role 

The Network Architect is senior member of staff within the Technology Division, serving the entire University and its international centres. The Network Architect will provide a clear vision and strategic direction for the University’s IT network which includes campus, cloud, and hybrid data centres. 


The Person 

You’ll have significant experience of working across organisational boundaries in complex environments. You’ll have previously developed network architecture and set the direction for network optimisation architecture focusing on security and performance. As a Network Architect at The University of Manchester, you will be immersed in several key IT programmes having a direct impact on the current and future iterations of our network and IT services. 


You’ll also have: 

  • Developed network strategy plans and roadmaps based on sound enterprise architecture practices. 

  • Developed network architecture artifacts (e.g. models, templates, standards and procedures) that can be used to leverage network capabilities in projects and operations. 

  • Participated in application, infrastructure and cyber projects to provide network planning advice. 

  • Worked in a user-focused environment. 

  • Set baseline network configuration standards for network, cloud and network segmentation. 

  • Have partnered with audit teams to review and evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of network-related controls. 

  • Conducted research and made recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts. 

  • Experience with methodologies like agile and waterfall. 

  • An understanding of feasibility planning for new and existing services.
