Applications are invited a full-time Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in any area of sciences that complements the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology multidisciplinary research portfolio.
This opportunity arises from the University’s commitment and ambition to support excellent teaching and research in areas of strength. The post holder will become part of the team driving this strategic goal, by developing and leading cross-cutting research programmes within the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology and School of Medical Sciences. We will consider applications from across a wide spectrum of sub-specialties but are particularly interested in individuals who will complement our existing strengths and also bring something new to Manchester, for example new technologies, new ideas and new ways of working. The Division’s research currently has strengths in biological timing, hepatology & organ fibrosis, gastroenterology & nutrition, metabolism & obesity, endocrinology & diabetes and human development, stem cells & organ regeneration. We are particularly interested in non-clinical, discovery scientists and those looking to form partnerships with existing clinical research teams. Indeed, one area of research for the Division is a growing number of clinical/non-clinical partnerships to bring about transformative research at the discovery-translational and translational-clinical interfaces. To support this aspirational research, we are committed to developing a collaborative research community in Manchester, involving basic biological and clinical scientists, medical and allied health professionals and physical scientists.
You will be expected to undertake teaching on biological sciences and medical programmes, and to conduct high quality, REF-returnable research that attracts external funding; develop productive local, national and international research collaborations; promote, develop and conduct interdisciplinary research; publish in high-quality journals; substantially contribute to teaching and assessment; provide academic and operational leadership; and help deliver the strategic goals of the Division.
You should have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject. We expect you to have published in leading journals and shown a commitment to teaching. Securing previous external research funding and having supervised postgraduate students would be advantageous.
