Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University of Manchester for the post of Lecturer in Disaster Studies at the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI). We are particularly interested in candidates whose research interests include a focus on disaster studies and climate change, and who can engage with the Institute’s range of broader thematic expertise in global/humanitarian health, and humanitarian or conflict response. HCRI is a multidisciplinary institute, and we welcome applications that illustrate a commitment to or experience of crossing disciplinary boundaries.

This lectureship is a teaching and research position aimed at complementing and advancing HCRI’s mission. The role requires the post-holder to contribute to the Institute’s international reputation of academic excellence by delivering high-quality research and publications, particularly related to disaster studies, including climate change. Further, the successful candidate will be asked to contribute to teaching activities, including contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes, as stipulated by the Institute Executive Director. The candidate must be able to provide course development for new and existing undergraduate and postgraduate taught course units around their research interests to complement the current teaching portfolio. The post holder is expected to provide high quality digital (online and hybrid) and face-to-face teaching in the Institute. Finally, the post holder will be required to contribute to academic administration and management, appropriate to their career level.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
