
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious graduate or engineer with passion about vision systems and machine learning, ability and confidence to manage a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with an established company in plate glass inspection, Simulation Solutions (SIMSOL), and the University of Manchester. The project provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting edge industrial vision and image processing systems for plate glass production monitoring and defects detection. The company is established as a leader in the sector for providing vision inspection solutions to the plate glass manufacturers around the world. This project forms a pivotal part of their on-going processes to update the technology to enable more advanced detection, characterisation and monitoring with advanced image processing and machine learning and it will transform the glass production and quality control.
The University of Manchester and SIMSOL are looking to recruit a high calibre individual with a background in computer science or electronic engineering as the KTP Associate to undertake this 24-month project with an overall aim of developing an advanced image processing techniques for monitoring plate glass manufacturing and detecting and quantifying various defects in real-time.
The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn the state-of-the-art machine learning and image processing techniques and applying them to one of the most challenging recognition problems. SIMSOL provides a testbed platform for experimenting and trialling developed the cutting-edge techniques in the glass manufacturing industries.
Candidates will require a recently obtained minimum of a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in computer science or electronic engineering. Master or PhD graduates are very welcome.
This post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, a UK Government flagship scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry. There are professional development budget and opportunities as well as funded training courses on business, environment protection and project management.
The KTP associate will be an employee of the University of Manchester but will be primarily based at SIMSOL, Stockport, Greater Manchester, with regular supervision meetings with the University supervisory team and industrial supervisors of SIMSOL and will use the facilities and resources of both organisations.
