The NIHR Centre for Precision Approaches to Combatting Antimicrobial Resistance (C-PACA) has been developed through a £4.4M award to Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and the University of Manchester as part of the Department of Health and Social Care’s commitment to the fight against antimicrobial (antibiotic) resistance (AMR). The Centre has laboratory space at MFT’s Wythenshawe Hospital site. We work closely with the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and North West Lung Centre. NIHR C-PACA is a purpose-built facility to develop, validate and perform quantitative analysis of small molecules and metabolites. The NIHR C-PACA has three liquid chromatograph-tandem mass spectrometers for this purpose.
This is full-time fixed term post until 30 November 2025.
We are seeking a highly skilled and ambitious individual to manage, deliver and co-develop internationally-leading bioanalytical research in collaboration with users at the UoM, from UK academia and industry, and with international partners. Reporting to Dr Tim Felton, the role will involve sample preparation and analysis on a range of research projects and development of bio-analytical methods. Other duties include training and supporting users including research students and staff, and presentation of technical reports at monthly laboratory meetings to key stakeholders.
You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant science and experience of liquid chromatograph-tandem mass spectrometers, a track record of working on complex, multi-disciplinary research projects with multiple partners in academia and/or industry. You will be self-motivated, flexible and able to manage their own workload, work to deadlines, and to solve operational problems through the use of initiative and innovation.
