Job Description

This interdisciplinary project is being led by Senior Lecturer Marion Vannier (Criminology), as part of her project funded by the UK Research and Innovation to explore the meaning and value of hope as a human right in the carceral environment with a focus on elderly life-sentenced prisoners in England and Wales.

The proposed project has four main objectives:

  1. To broaden our understanding of meaning and value of hope in criminal justice as a metric for designing ‘acceptable’ punishment, through desk research, face-to-face interviews and empirical fieldwork in prison
  2. To develop our existing network of academics, policymakers, and policy-influencers focused on aging prisoners and human rights in the carceral environment.
  3. To produce a number of outputs, including journal articles, stakeholders’ reports, and a monograph
  4. To organise a two day in-person workshop with academics, policymakers and policy influencers, to map potential policy responses to aging related issues.

Shortlisting is scheduled to take place in the week of the 1st July.

Interviews are to be held the week commencing 10th July.
