 About IT Services

IT Services at The University of Manchester is a diverse, fast-moving department that provides the technology that helps the University further its world-leading reputation. We’re currently looking to recruit a Technology Delivery Manager to join us on our journey.

The Team

The division of Technology leads and owns the University’s IT infrastructure and platforms and is accountable for a comprehensive approach across all areas of the University and its international centres. The division is comprised of four departments (Infrastructure Services, IT Operations Centre, Platforms and Infrastructure Programmes) and oversight of strategic managed services contacts. You will be a member of the division leadership team as well as the Directorate IT leadership team.

The Role

The technology delivery manager will be responsible for a team within infrastructure services that delivery services for hosting.  This involves at a high level the deployment and management of on-premises infrastructure used to host services.  This includes a large vSphere environment hosting over 2000 VMs, Solaris SPARC hosting for Oracle Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, Financials e.t.c A large LAMP stack webfarm and WordPress hosting.  The administration of several thousand virtual and physical windows and unix servers.

The key objectives for the post are to provide a stable service; diagnose and respond quickly to resolve IT failures; and identify ways to continually improve the service to achieve better value for the University.  The role must also work closely with development and project teams to identify and prepare for new or changed services.

The Delivery Manager is accountable for the optimal performance of the team.  The post holder will ensure the team are motivated, clear on their objectives, focused on continuous improvement and empowered to find creative solutions that will add value to the service.

The Person

You’ll have significant experience of providing technical management for an IT operation, ensuring that agreed service levels are met and all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.

You’ll also have:

  • Experience of Inclusive leadership
  • Experience of Performance monitoring: Identifying, agreeing and monitoring objectives and deliverables with individuals.
  • Experience of managing and improving Service level agreements
  • Experience of Operations management in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Desirable knowledge, experience of enterprise technologies used to host windows and unix systems at scale.
