About IT Services

IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving Directorate, with focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students, and researchers.

The Team

The Virtualisation team, as part of the wider ITS Technology Team, support and administer the University of Manchester key business infrastructure. Using industry standard tooling and technologies, the team provides proactive and timely reactive, via monitoring and reporting, maintenance and support for the platform.

The Role

The Windows Server Engineer is responsible for creation, maintenance, and monitoring of Windows servers. The post holder will diagnose, remediate, and test server-related issues to ensure a stable and secure infrastructure service to the University. They will provide a critical role in providing support for Windows servers, physical and virtual (VMware) as well as any environments that might be hosted in the cloud (Azure, AWS, etc.).

The Person

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of maintaining a large-scale, multi-site Windows Server environment, physical, virtual and/or in cloud environments.
  • Deep understanding of the Windows Server operating system from version 2012 to current offering.
  • Ability to test and certify new versions of Windows operating systems to provide better integrations with core business applications
  • Experience of integrating server automation processes either by custom scripts or third- party solutions.
  • Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN/VLAN, TCP/IP, UDP

Desirable: MCITP, MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Server+ or equivalent Role Based certification
