Job Description

We seek to appoint a post-doctoral research associate in computational fluid structure interaction and flow control, who is ready to contribute to world-leading research and development at the interface of simulation and machine learning. The successful candidate will have completed a related PhD and will have a strong teamwork mentality and a growth mindset.

This project seeks to combine machine learning with an existing GPU-accelerated solver capable of exploring the potential for flow control via a series of flexible devices. Slender structures, either passive or actively actuated interact with a cross flow to induce favourable motion; in particular reducing drag or inducing a bulk flow.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in the area of fluid structure interaction and flow control. They should also be able to evidence extensive programming experience, the use of GPU computing, advanced data analysis skills and a track record of successful dissemination of their research via top journal papers and oral presentation at international conferences.

The project will be part of an ongoing collaboration with researchers at Aix Marseille University in France and will involve possibility for travel.

We are particularly keen to hear from researchers with experience in some or all the following areas:

  • Experience with the immersed boundary method, particularly for fluid structure interaction.
  • Use of lattice Boltzmann method and finite element method
  • Experience in the use of CFD software on GPU devices
  • Experience in the application of machine learning techniques for multiparameter optimisation;

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
