The University of Manchester Library stands proudly as one of the UK's five National Research Libraries and holds the distinction of being the third-largest academic library in the country. We are committed to serving a diverse community of over 46,000 students, researchers, and academic staff. Our extensive collection comprises 4 million printed items, 1 million microfilms, over 41,000 electronic journals, 500,000 eBooks, and a rich assortment of databases. While our primary focus is supporting the learning, teaching, and research needs of the University, we are equally dedicated to extending our services to individual researchers, local schools, and the broader regional community.
We are currently seeking a temporary Senior Conservator to join our Collections Care Team, part of Curatorial Practices and will work across several sites including The John Rylands Research Institute & Library, where most of the Special Collections of The University of Manchester Library are housed. The collection includes numerous world-renowned manuscripts, archives and printed books.
The Collection Team is responsible for the Conservation and Preservation of all Library holdings across multiple Library sites and stores and the role holder will be expected to contribute to all Collection Care activities as required.
The successful candidate will also have the ability to work independently and unsupervised, whilst adhering to deadline, across a wide range of Library Collection Care activities.
Applicants should have at least two years of practical experience since qualifying, including experience of preservation, treating books and flat paper items or ceramics.
They should also be accredited or working towards accreditation through Icon's ACR scheme.
We look forward to welcoming a passionate and skilled Senior Conservator to our Collections Care Team, dedicated to preserving our invaluable collections for generations to come.
