Job Description

The University of Manchester is recognised and highly ranked globally for its pioneering research, the breadth of teaching and learning and for its commitment to social responsibility. The world’s big challenges demand urgent action and we are working across boundaries and disciplines to create healthier, more equal futures; helping to eradicate poverty; ensuring energy supply for future generations; and protecting our planet for the years to come.

The University is defined not only by its scale but also its complexity with an annual turnover in 2022/3 of £1.35bn, 13,000 staff, around 46,000 students and more than 500,000 alumni.

This is a newly created role and will be a central member of our IT Executive Team, reporting to the CIO. The Director – Digital and Innovation will own our digital strategy and be accountable for the digital user experience and technical delivery of strategic change during a period of significant investment in our digital future. Over the next decade and beyond, this strategic position will be  dedicated to reshaping our digital campus, enhancing AI, data, and digital services, and fostering a culture of excellence befitting a truly global institution.  As Director – Digital and Innovation you will be proactive, monitoring, and further championing new digital technologies, culture shifts and ideas in line with the University’s goals.

As such this presents a singular opportunity for a senior-level IT, Data and Digital management professional with a demonstrable ability to identify future trends. You will be a customer-focused transformational leader, who can bridge the gap between IT and business colleagues (and speak both languages) in digital transformation, or developing and adapting business practices into digital delivery, all whilst navigating complex challenges in alignment with our global ambitions.
