Job Description

The University of Manchester is seeking to appoint a Leadership Development Manager to join the Talent Development Team within the People Directorate.

The Role

The Leadership Development Manager is responsible for developing, managing and continuously improving the University's management and leadership development offer.

Leading a team of specialists, you will oversee the design and delivery of leadership development programmes, workshops, learning resources and development interventions that support colleagues at all levels, from aspiring managers through to senior and executive leaders.

Working closely with stakeholders across the University, including academic and professional services colleagues, you will shape the leadership development portfolio, manage delivery plans, oversee external providers, and ensure colleagues can access high-quality development opportunities that support organisational priorities.

You will also lead the evaluation of leadership development activity, using evidence and insight to maximise impact, continuously improve the learning offer, and ensure investment delivers measurable outcomes for both individuals and the University.

This is a hybrid role, with the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week, subject to organisational need.

The Person

You will bring:

  • Significant experience designing and delivering leadership development programmes and solutions.
  • Experience leading organisation-wide leadership and management development activity.
  • Strong people leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience evaluating the impact of learning and development interventions and using data to drive improvement.
  • The ability to build strong partnerships and align leadership development activity to organisational priorities.

Experience within Higher Education, coaching qualifications, CIPD membership, psychometric accreditation and digital learning expertise would be advantageous.

Why Join Us

This is an exciting opportunity to shape leadership capability across one of the UK's leading universities.

Working at the heart of the People Directorate, you will play a key role in strengthening leadership practice, culture and capability across the institution, helping leaders at all levels deliver against the University's strategic ambitions.

As a member of the Russell Group and a globally recognised institution for teaching, research and social responsibility, The University of Manchester offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact within a complex, ambitious and purpose-driven organisation.
