Job Description

The Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS) is delighted to advertise this exciting opportunity for a Lead Disability Adviser (staff focussed) to join the team at the University of Manchester.

As part of the DASS, you will contribute to a client-centred specialist advice and guidance service. You will maintain your own case work portfolio providing advice and assistance for our staff and overseeing their support. You will advise staff on applications for external allowances and the support available to them, staff on the provision of adjustments, and work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the Campus Life Division incorporating Advice and Response, Counselling and Mental Health and Occupational Health services. You will have a good knowledge of the Equalities Act and other relevant legislation and will strive for continuous improvement to the service delivered by the department.

You will be educated to at least degree standard (or equivalent) and have experience of assessing the needs of disabled staff including those with mental health difficulties, unseen, physical and sensory disabilities and specific learning difficulties. Detailed understanding of the needs of staff within higher education and the appropriate responses and adjustments is therefore essential. You will have excellent interpersonal, accuracy and communication skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
