We are now seeking an exceptional academic leader to become the next Professor and Head of the Department of Law, one of the UK’s largest centres for legal education and research. The Department of Law is a dynamic academic community with c70 FTE academic staff. We offer a broad portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes that attract talented students from across the world. Our research is internationally renowned for its depth, interdisciplinarity and impact, addressing pressing global issues such as human rights, business regulation, ethics and governance.

The Department hosts four research centres: the Manchester International Law Centre, the Manchester Centre for Regulation, Governance and Public Law, the Manchester Centre for Law and Business, and the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy. As Professor and Head of Department, you will provide strategic and inspiring leadership, strengthening the Department’s reputation for world-class research, outstanding education and a transformative student experience.

You will work collaboratively with senior colleagues in the Department, across the School of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities to deliver academic excellence, social responsibility and inclusivity. The role requires an experienced legal academic with a record of research excellence, success in leadership and a deep commitment to collegiality, equality and diversity.
