Research IT
The University of Manchester has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join its Research IT team in the expansion of its Research Software Engineering support to over 5000 researchers at the University. In particular, you will help support the work of the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute as part of their Digital Experimental Cancer Medicine Team.
The Role
As part of the Research IT team, you will be responsible for providing software engineering expertise to researchers, research projects and our own platforms while working on engagements from a few weeks to many months in duration. You will work on research projects from conception to completion, gathering requirements, helping with grant applications, implementing and documenting as required. A significant part of the work for this post will be with the Digital Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (dECMT - www.digitalecmt.org). You will be responsible for the fast delivery of data and analytics, and a key part of bringing real time e-decisions to phase 1 clinical trials.
Specific Role Requirements
We are interested in receiving applications from people who have experience in the complete software engineering lifecycle and who have a passion for supporting researchers. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have experience in the areas of Data Science, Statistics, High Performance Computing, Cloud, Web and Mobile Application Development. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency with one or more programming languages such as Python, node.js, R, C, C++, Java and Shell. Experience of computational science in a health environment is desirable, but not essential.
In your application please ensure you make clear reference to the domains, languages and technologies you have experience of. Research IT and dECMT will provide training in other areas as part of your career progression.
We are looking for enthusiastic team members who are able to learn new skills quickly, can communicate effectively with researchers and colleagues (whatever their IT ability), and are keen to work on a diverse range of problems ranging from giving immediate answers to working for or alongside researchers on projects that may last from days to months.
