
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious engineer to undertake research in the field of power system transmission line protection. Based in the Electrical Energy and Power Systems research division, you will develop techniques and understanding to identify how travelling wave and superimposed component transmission line protection can be applied to a Power System in which the short-circuit fault level varies between high and low values dependent on the energy sources available. The project is supported by the Great Britain transmission system asset owner, National Grid.
You will hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD or equivalent in power system engineering or have relevant industrial research experience. Expertise in power system modelling and protection is essential, and experience in the testing of protection relays using computer based relay test sets is desirable.
You should have a proven ability to work independently, possess a strong power system modelling and protection skills, and be able to present results and concepts in an effective manner in both written reports and oral presentations. You should be able to interact effectively with researchers from other disciplines and industrial partners. Good written and oral communication skills are essential.
