Job Description

The University of Manchester is seeking to recruit a counsellor, psychological therapist or mental health practitioner to work with the ResLife Team in University halls. This project is a collaboration between the ResLife Team and the University of Manchester Counselling and Mental Health Service. It would be a 9-month long contract during the challenging time of COVID19, offering delivery of new services to meet the changing needs of the students.

The University of Manchester has 17 Halls of Residence, which when full houses approximately 8000 students. Working alongside the ResLife Team you will be based within the halls of Residence and will contribute to the quality of student life in both University accommodation and in the local student community through the appropriate provision of workshops as well as small group support as needed.

 You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and be either a counsellor or psychological therapist trained to at least diploma level with significant post-qualifying experience of working within the NHS/HE or similar environment, and be BACP, BABCP, UKCP or BPS accredited (or eligible for) or equivalent professional body,  or you will have a professional qualification as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Mental Health Social Worker, or similar, and have relevant work experience with young adults.

You will oversee the organisation and delivery of a Mental Health and Wellbeing programme in Halls of Residence which would be attended by both residents within Halls and the wider local student community. You will deliver psycho-educational workshops, provide training and support for other ResLife staff to deliver workshops as well. You will evaluate workshops measuring impact, attendance monitoring and prepare reports on the project.

You will have experience of conducting mental health and risk assessments and responding to crisis situations, signposting appropriately. You will have knowledge and understanding of current issues in mental health, wellbeing and psychological treatments, with a particular focus on higher education.

You will provide advice and guidance to University colleagues on key issues concerning student and staff mental health and wellbeing, and liaise with other university support teams and support staff in academic Schools to ensure coordinated support.
