The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on a funded project investigating a new type of antiviral agent.
You will be a hardworking, motivated and trustworthy, innovative experimental scientist who has successfully completed a PhD in Biology (or similar) or have equivalent experience. Ideally, expertise in general virology with a focus on developing and understanding extracellular antivirals are sought. Experience with cell toxicity assays (including ex-vivo) as well as dose-response and virucidal plaque assays will be important. Mechanistic determination of antiviral mode of action will be necessary so experience with related techniques is advantageous. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and leading a small research team, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
The Department of Materials is strongly committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN Charter for gender equality in higher education. The Department holds a Silver Award which recognises their good practice in relation to gender; including flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and support to allow staff to achieve a good work-life balance. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post. Appointment will always be made on merit.
