The Manchester Cancer Research Centre is seeking a talented and ambitious computational biologist to play a key role in a genomic research study of breast cancer in Nigerian women. Almost all large cancer sequencing projects to date have been based in developed countries and have primarily sequenced tumours from individuals of European ancestry. However, it is increasingly accepted that both the aetiology and the patterns of genomic aberrations associated with cancers of non-European populations may differ widely from those observed in these studies. This project is carrying out Whole Genome Sequencing on over 100 breast cancer samples collected from women in Nigeria. We are looking for a postdoc with computational skills and an interest in Whole Genome Sequencing data to lead the analysis of this cohort. This project is a collaboration between the University of Manchester, the University of Chicago and other international partners, so an ability to communicate well with other researchers is essential.
