
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious graduate with the ability and confidence to manage a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with Forth Engineering (Cumbria) Ltd.
The University of Manchester and Forth Engineering (Cumbria) Ltd are looking to recruit a Mechatronic Design & Control Engineer to undertake this 30-month project which has an overall aim of developing a semi-autonomous mechatronic system to be attach to a manually operated manipulator. The goal is to design a specific robotic solution using stepper and servo motors to translate and feedforward the received motion commands from an electronic controller to the end effector.
The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to involve in a very exciting project to develop, embed and exploit advanced mechatronics and control systems expertise for application in bespoke robotic solutions for extreme environments in collaboration with The University of Manchester Robotic for Extreme Environment Lab (REEL) and Forth Engineering in Cumbria.
Candidates will require a PhD (or equivalent), or be close to achieving the degree, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Computing, Robotics, or a closely related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills will also be a requirement for the post.
This post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, a UK Government scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry.
Based at Forth Engineering (Cumbria) Ltd in Maryport, the successful candidate will work directly with supervisors from both the University and Forth Engineering (Cumbria) Ltd and will use the facilities and resources of both organisations.
