Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional person to lead a broad portfolio of activity across Planning, Compliance and Governance.  You will provide high-profile strategic and operational support to the Dean, Director of Faculty Operations and Faculty Leadership team to ensure that the Faculty sets and maintains its strategic course as one of the top performing academic institutions, achieves its objectives and is compliant with all sector specific legislation, guidance and reporting requirements.

You will drive the development and implementation of the Faculty’s strategic and operational plans, co-ordinating strategic discussions with colleagues in the Schools, Faculty and wider University and working with them to identify the changes that we need to make to ensure that we build on our successes in the future. You should have excellent leadership skills and experience of developing strategy and assessing performance to develop achievable goals and implement processes that improve organisational effectiveness.  You will be expected to develop a sound knowledge and appreciation of the University’s operations and understanding of the relationship between sector and societal changes and day-to-day Faculty business.

The role also oversees the Dean’s Office, a team who deliver a fast-paced, diverse portfolio of business:  supporting Faculty governance, fulfil requirements for University planning and senior committees, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and coordinate reviews and process improvement. An ability to work at pace and to thrive in a dynamic environment will be vital.

Relationship building and networking are key to this role, so alongside demonstrable senior leadership experience, you will need to be exceptional with people, have a track record as an effective collaborator and have the ability to influence at all levels, ready to work with senior academic and PS colleagues to develop challenging plans.  You’ll have strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex information for a variety of audiences.  You’ll also have a keen ability to identify opportunities and key sector challenges to enable forward planning and agile response to market changes.

For the right candidate this role offers a great opportunity and a huge amount of experience, it is challenging in the best way:  you will have the chance to influence the future of one of the largest Faculties in the Higher Education sector, and to be directly involved in shaping and leading change across the University.

On return to campus the role will be based at Waterloo Place, Oxford Road.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
