
The Particle Physics group at The University of Manchester requests applications for a position working on the silicon detectors of the LHCb Upgrades at the LHC at CERN. The work is part of an STFC funded research activity within The University of Manchester particle physics group.
You will be expected to work on the construction and commissioning of the LHCb silicon vertex detector (VELO) upgrade 1 and on the design and prototyping of future silicon detector systems at LHCb and ATLAS. The University of Manchester group are responsible for constructing and testing silicon pixel detector modules for LHCb Upgrade 1 and contribute to the FPGA firmware.
For future upgrades radiation hard CMOS detectors and precision timing hybrid-pixel detectors are under study, both for LHCb and ATLAS. The group also works on a range of detector development activities including developments for the ATLAS Upgrade 2 pixel end-caps and the DUNE Liquid argon Time Projection Chamber. You will have experience in detector development and/or detector operation.
The position is available initially until September 2022 with the possibility of extension depending on future funding.
