We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with excellent skills in qualitative research methods to join us working on a research programme funded by NIHR.
You will be contributing to a research programme called “Transforming outpatient consultations by integrating regular symptom tracking into clinical care: the Remote Monitoring of Rheumatoid Arthritis (REMORA2) study”. The REMORA2 programme is funded by NIHR as part of their Programme Grants for Applied Research scheme and will take four years in total, with a stop-go decision at two years.
REMORA2 builds on previous studies conducted by the research team that demonstrated the feasiblity and acceptability of daily smartphone-based symptom tracking in people living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with symptom data integrated into the electronic health record. The current programme aims to deliver robust evidence for the positive effect of this integrated symptom tracking on health outcomes.
A key element of the programme is a stepped wedge cluster randomised trial, conducted at multiple rheumatology departments in Greater Manchester and North West London. The programme comprises four workstreams led by a multidisciplinary group of international experts in the field, based at the University of Manchester and elsewhere. The team will work with a well-established public and patient involvement (PPI) group to inform the design and conduct of the programme, as well as to disseminate and communicate the findings.
You will work primarily in workstreams 1 (feasibility study and intervention refinement; first 18 months) and 2 (stepped wedge trial; months 19-48). They will conduct a qualitative evaluation of the study’s feasibility trial (WP1.2) and a process evaluation of the impact of the REMORA2 intervention on shared decision-making and implementation success in the full stepped wedge cluster trial (WP2.3).
The work packages aims are:
WP1.2: To explore patients’ and rheumatology specialists’ perspectives on the feasibility of delivering and using integrated symptom tracking, and develop and refine supporting materials accordingly.
WP2.3: To qualitatively evaluate the effect of integrated symptom tracking on shared decision-making and interactions in clinic consultations, as well as the required behaviour change and other factors that influence its implementation.
You will be joining a team of multi-disciplinary researchers who, together, will be creating novel research that will make a difference to patients’ lives, now and in the future.
You will be based at Centre for Epidemiology Versus Arthritis (University of Manchester), with some travel within the Greater Manchester region and North-West London, as required.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
