
UK Data Service
The UK Data Service is a resource funded by the ESRC to support researchers, policymakers and Higher Education teachers. It provides access to an extensive range of high quality economic and social data. From the website, users can search the collection and download data and related documentation for analysis. The UK Data Service is delivered by staff with special expertise in research data based at several institutions across the UK, including the Cathie Marsh Institute at the University of Manchester.
The UK Data Service also provides a wealth of training events (webinar and workshops) and online training/support materials such as guides, video tutorials and helpdesk support. The Training function of the UK Data Service is led by the Cathie Marsh Institute but delivered by all UK Data Service partners.
Overall Purpose of the Job
You will use your background experience of conducting research using computational social science to develop and deliver training events (workshops and webinars) and online training materials to meet the needs of social science and cross-disciplinary researchers. There will be the opportunity for you to conduct your own research using computational social science as part of your role, but the majority of your time will be spent on preparing and delivering training. You will work closely with senior staff leading the programme of training work and with other staff employed to deliver training. Specifically, the role will involve:
- Developing, organising and delivering training events in computational social science for social scientists and cross-disciplinary researchers.
- Developing online training materials in computational social science.
- Developing further skills in computational social science in order to transfer knowledge via the UK Data Service training programme.
- Working with senior stakeholders and others working in the field.
- Other related duties as needed.
