Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), affects millions of people world-wide each year. It is now appreciated that concussion increases the risk of developing long-term emotional and cognitive disorders such as anxiety and depression and neurodegenerative disease. The immune response is a key regulator of brain injury but little is known of the immune-cell mediated inflammation and drive concussion-related symptoms.
We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to examine the brain’s immune response to mTBI. Using preclinical models, key immune components of the brain, such as the meninges and resident microglia will be probed to understand the neuroimmune pathways involved in this common injury. The successful candidate will join the lab of Dr Andrew Greenhalgh based in the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation. The Greenhalgh lab is quickly expanding and covers basic mechanisms of neuroimmunology through to clinical neuroimaging.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent) and have a strong background in immunology and/or neuroscience, excellent technical skills in flow cytometry and extensive experience of working with animal models. Experience in models of inflammation and behavioural testing would be advantageous.
This full-time post is for up to 36 months, with an anticipated start date of the 1st of January 2022.
