A Research Associate position with Prof Rob Dryfe is available for 24 months (in the first instance) to work on the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2. This is part of a collaborative project between Cardiff University, The University of Manchester, BP and Johnson Matthey (JM), co-funded by EPSRC and industry.
The aim of the project is to develop a platform of new, sustainable catalyst technologies that will enable clean growth and a low carbon future. This particular role will focus on the electrocatalytic approach, involving the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to C1 and C2 products. The goal is to develop efficient catalysts for the CO2 electroreduction process, with a specific focus on generating new electrocatalytic pathways to formaldehyde, and on the development of oscillating potential approaches to increase the yield (and selectivity) of reduced products.
You will work within Prof Dryfe’s research team, based in laboratories in the Royce Institute, whose “hub” building is on the Manchester campus. You should hold (or be nearing completion) a PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physics or closely related discipline and should have a good knowledge of electrochemistry, with specific experience of electrocatalysis and, ideally, with knowledge of the preparation/characterisation of 2D materials/nanomaterials as a further desirable attribute. You will have to work to strict deadlines and will possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
