Job Description

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated mucosal immunologist to work on a project, investigating mechanisms instructing eosinophil function in the lung during allergic-type inflammation. You will be a Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. John Grainger in The University of Manchester’s Lydia Becker Institute within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to plan and direct a research program exploring the local and long-range signals that contribute to eosinophil differentiation in the lung during inflammation.

You will be expected to develop and drive your own research project, pursue your research objectives in a rigorous and efficient manner and present your findings via peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations. Candidates must hold a PhD (or expect to obtain one shortly) in immunology, with extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of non-lymphoid organ immunology and allergic-type inflammation. Expertise in high parameter flow cytometry, in vivo models, particularly of lung inflammation, and primary immune human cell isolation, especially eosinophils, and cell culture are essential. Candidates should have a good publication record and hold a Home Office License.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
